When Is a Legging Deal Actually Worth It? Our Buy Price for Each Store

The gist — A legging deal is worth it when the price sits below its own store's median, at least three sizes remain, and the length you need is one of them. Percentage off is the last thing we look at, not the first.

Two leggings can both be "half off" and be worth wildly different things. One was $98 and is now $49; the other was $22 and is now $11. Neither number tells you whether the waistband rolls.

What is a normal price for a legging in 2026?

There is no single answer, and that is the useful part. Reading all five brand catalogs again on Sept. 20, the in-stock legging medians land like this: Senita $31.50, Bubblelime $31.98, Baleaf $43.50, PopFlex $70.00, Girlfriend Collective $108.00. Senita and Bubblelime have swapped into a dead heat since our Sept. 8 count, when Senita sat at $45.00.

So a $60 legging is either a 44% premium or a 44% discount, depending entirely on the door you walked through. We publish the buy price per store instead of pretending one number covers the market, and we move a threshold when the median under it moves.

What price do we call a buy?

These are our own thresholds, set from the catalog medians rather than from any brand’s guidance. Senita is the one we changed today: when a store puts 55% of its listings below list, the old $25 bar stops separating a deal from an ordinary Tuesday.

What is the buy price on Amazon?

The marketplace needs its own number, because a listing there has a history you can actually see. We use the all-time low as the anchor: within about two dollars of it is a buy, ten dollars above it is not.

Price-history records re-read Sept. 20, 2026, 1:35 a.m. ET; the dates in the second column are when each listing last changed price, not when we looked. Two things stand out. The SATINA listing is the only one anywhere near its floor, and it is the cheapest legging in the table by ten dollars. The Colorfulkoala pair is the trap: it sat at $14.99 as recently as Aug. 31 and is $29.00 today, so a shopper who remembers the August price is looking at a doubling, not a deal.

Which fit details decide whether it gets worn?

Waistband height. A high waist yoga pant with a wide band stays put through a squat; a mid-rise with a thin band does not, at any price. The band width is usually in the product copy — four inches is a good line.

Length options. A store that sells one length is guessing about your legs. Bubblelime lists 19", 22", 26", 28", 29", 31", 33", 35" and 37" across its range; PopFlex sells by height band instead.

Pockets. A side pocket that holds a phone changes what the garment is for. It is also the detail most often missing from the cheapest listings.

When is a cheap legging a false economy?

• Final sale in one size. If it does not fit, the price was infinite.
• No fabric composition listed. Every store we track publishes it; a listing that hides it is telling you something.
• Light colors with no opacity note. The squat test failure is a real return, and returns are what final sale removes.
• A length that is close enough. Two inches of extra fabric bunching at the ankle is the reason a pair sits unworn in a drawer.

What about buying at full price?

Worth it in exactly two cases. First, when your size is the one that always sells out — XS and 2XL disappear first in the catalogs we track. Second, when the length is unusual: extra petite and six-foot-plus options rarely survive to clearance, so paying list is the only route.

How often do these stores actually discount?

It depends heavily on which store, and that is new. Counting every in-stock product across the five catalogs on Sept. 20, 790 of 3,108 were priced below list — about one in four. But the average hides the shape: Senita alone contributes 466 of those 790, while Girlfriend contributes 26. At one store a markdown is the normal state; at another it is an event.

Is a two-pack cheaper than two singles?

Often, but check the per-unit price and the colors. A bundle that forces a color you will not wear is a single at full price.

Does a higher price mean squat-proof?

No. Opacity comes from knit density and fabric weight, and both appear in the low-priced listings we track. The reliable signal is a stated squat test in the product copy plus a dark color if you are unsure. Our price-checking guide covers how to read the rest of the page.

TL;DR — Set the bar per store: under $18 at Senita, $20 at Bubblelime, $30 at Baleaf, $45 at PopFlex, $60 at Girlfriend. Then check waistband, length options and pockets. If three sizes are still up, you have time to measure first.

What about sports bras and shorts?

Same method, different numbers. Median in-stock prices from the Sept. 20 catalog pull:

Bras hold their price better than leggings do, because support is harder to discount into — a $15 clearance bra in the wrong band size is worthless, and shoppers know it. Senita is the exception worth watching: its bra median has stayed at $35.00 while its legging median fell $13.50, which tells you the markdown wave hit the legs and not the ribcage. Shorts go deepest at the end of summer, which is exactly where the calendar sits now.

Our working rule: buy bras when the size and cup range you need is in stock at any reasonable price, and buy shorts only on markdown between August and October. Current examples live on the daily board and in sports bras, and the deepest current cut is tracked in the 70% off group.
